Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world. It originated in China more than 2,000 years ago and became better know in the United States in about 1971.
“Chi” is the energy that is flowing through your body. Chi is thought to flow along energy pathways called “meridians.”
Acupuncturists believe that a blocking or imbalance of the flow of chi (energy) at any point on a pathway may result in illness. Acupuncture unblocks and rebalances the flow of chi to restore health.
There are 361 acupuncture points in the body, divided among 12 meridians. Every point may by itself or in combination with other points help a condition of the body.
The World Health Organization, whose authority concerning health related matters internationally, has identified many symptoms, syndromes, disease processes, pathologies, traumas and conditions that have definitely been proven as being effectively treated by acupuncture. Practitioners have the opportunity to see the results on an every-day basis when patients report their relief of symptoms!
So, what is it like to get an acupuncture treatment? Dr. Davidson will use small, thin, sterile needles inserted into the skin to help stimulate energy, healing, and balance. Acupuncture needles are as thin as a human hair and are only left in the body for about 20 minutes. The number and frequency of treatments will vary from person to person. Some symptoms are relieved after the first treatment!
